Location

The Pilanesberg Private Lodge is a retreat nestled on the foot of the majestic Pilanesberg Mountains in a malaria free area. It is conveniently situated within a 2 hour drive from Johannesburg or Pretoria, and within a 20 minute drive from Sun City. The lodge is positioned in the Black Rhino Reserve, a part of the Pilanesberg National Park wilderness area that has previously not been accessible to any visitors.

Black Rhino Private Reserve

The Black Rhino Private Reserve forms part of the Greater Pilanesberg National Park, and is situated in the North Western corner of Pilanesberg National Park.

We enjoy traversing across the entire park (57 000 hectares) in our open game vehicle. The reserve is entered exclusively through our private entrance gate on the western side of the reserve. The vegetation is predominantly sweet-veld and it compliments the sour-veld and mixed veld of the park. We have the privilege to see buffalo on regular occasions as they have taken shelter in the more remote areas that is not accessible to any other visitor to the park.

The reserve is characterized by huge number of Tambotie trees and therefore we have regular sightings of the bad tempered Black rhino. The reserve is also home to the Big 5 (Lion, Leopard, Buffalo, Elephant, White and Black Rhino) as well as Cheetah and Wild dog. Antelope species include sable, tsessebe, eland, gemsbok and springbok.

With a species list of over 354, the black rhino reserve is a true "birders paradise".
